1040-X Form 2021 Amended Tax Return

Form 1040-X— Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return is used for making corrections to a previous year’s tax return. If there is any reason for you to make a correction to your previous tax return— do so with filing Form 1040-X.

There are many reasons why one might need to file Form 1040-X. The most common among these reasons is overpaying taxes. If you missed a credit on your tax return or an incorrect tax document that reports your income was given to you file an amended tax return to correct these mistakes.

e-Filing Form 1040-X

Under the IRS guidelines, Form 1040-X cannot be filed electronically. A paper Form 1040-X must be filed and mailed to the IRS.
