When does the new president take office?

When will the president-elect get sworn in? After the elections are complete, there is a transition between the president to the president-elect. It takes about two months for the former president to leave and the new president to take the office.

This is for making the transition smoother since the administrations are different. Perhaps this is one of the most unique parts of how our presidential system works. The day the new president takes office is also known as Inauguration Day. Every four years, on January 20: the new president takes office.

Since Joe Biden has been declared the winner of the 2020 presidential elections, he will take office on January 20, 2021, and will remain the president for the next 4 years. On the inauguration day, he will be sworn in as the 46th president of the United States.
