Form I-9 — Employment Eligibility Verification will be used by newly hired workers in 2021 to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States. All newly hired individuals regardless of their citizenship or immigration status must file Form I-9.
It is mandated that every employee must have their Form I-9 in the personnel files kept by their employer. Form I-9 on its own won’t be enough though. Employers are required to scan a copy of their employees’ supporting documents such as documents that verify their identity and work authorization.
There aren’t any changes to the Form i9 employees file in 2021. Since Form I-9 isn’t renewed by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) every year, the same Form I-9 can be used for 2021.
The expiration date seen on the upper right corner of Form I-9 states that the current Form I-9 can be filed until October 31, 2022. After the expiration date, the new Form I-9 must be filled. However, if the USCIS doesn’t issue a new Form I-9 by this deadline, the one in use can be still filed.
