How to Renew Driver’s License in Connecticut?

If you live in the state of Connecticut and your driver's license or non-driver ID card is about to expire, you can now renew it online.

The state of Connecticut’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is dedicated to promoting and advancing public safety, security and service through the regulation of drivers, their motor vehicles, and vehicle-related businesses. The DMV provides a variety of services for citizens, including driver’s license renewal and title/registration services.

If you’re driving in Connecticut, it’s important to renew your license before it expires. If you don’t, you may be charged a late fee and you’ll have to pass written and driving tests again. The best way to avoid this is by renewing your driver’s license as soon as you receive the renewal notice.

Connecticut Driver’s License Online Renewal

Drivers can renew their license or ID card by mail or in person at a full-service DMV office. They must submit two pieces of proof of Connecticut residency that contain the applicant’s name and address. The documents must be dated within 90 days of the application date. If you have recently moved, you will need to notify the DMV within 48 hours of your new address. During the renewal process, you’ll be asked whether you want to upgrade your license to a verified Real ID or not. This will allow you to use your license at the airport and for other purposes. It’s not clear how many people will choose to verify their identity, but the option is there.

  • You won’t need any physical documents for online renewal.
  • You’ll need your current driver’s license information, Social Security number, and a debit/credit card for the fee.
