How to Renew Your Maine Driver’s License

You can renew your Maine driver's license online or in person.

You can renew your Maine Driver’s license online, by mail, or in person. To do so, you will need to bring proof of your identity, a completed application, and payment of fees. You will also need to pass a vision test, if you are over 40 or 62. You must also have a valid inspection sticker on your vehicle. This can be obtained by passing a safety inspection at an official state-licensed inspection station. You can find one near you by using this list.

If you are upgrading to a Real ID driver’s license, you must renew it in person so that the BMV can add additional identification documents to your file. For US citizens, suitable documents include a passport or certified birth certificate. Non-citizens should bring a valid immigration document, like an I-94. If you don’t have a card, you must also provide proof of your Social Security number. Lastly, you must provide two documents to establish proof of your Maine residency, such as utility bills or paycheck stubs. If you do not pass the vision exam, you will need to re-take it at a BMV facility

There are special rules for senior drivers in Maine. These rules are aimed at keeping both seniors and the roadways safe. These rules include requiring seniors to pass a medical examination and limiting their driving hours.

If you are a senior, you should renew your driver’s license as soon as possible. This will ensure that you have a valid license for the next two years. You should receive a renewal notice in the mail six months before your license expires. If you do not receive a renewal notice, you should contact the BMV. You can also renew your Maine driver’s license in person at any branch office or mobile unit site.
