Arizona MVD customers can now schedule their behind-the-wheel test appointments online through the state’s new appointment system. The new service is designed to cut down on wait times for customers visiting the department’s offices for motor vehicle-related services. The service also allows customers to avoid crowded offices by scheduling an appointment time that works best for them.
While the new online service offers a number of benefits, it is important to keep in mind that not all of the MVD’s services can be completed online. The state’s website, AZ MVD Now, allows customers to complete a number of MVD services from the comfort of their home or office, including renewals, change of address requests, and select express services such as changing a name on a driver’s license.
The online service can be accessed by any internet-enabled device and requires a customer ID, the last four digits of their Social Security Number or driver’s license number. It is also possible to schedule an upcoming road test at one of the following MVD locations:
While it is difficult to say whether the Arizona MVD’s appointment feature will help reduce wait times, it is worth a try. During peak times, the MVD can experience high volumes of traffic and long waits. When attempting to visit the MVD, some of the best times are the beginning and end of the week, before or after holidays, and during the middle of the day to avoid the lunch rush.
How to Make an Appointment at the AZ DMV?
There are a few ways to make an appointment at the Arizona MVD, depending on the type of service you need. If you’re looking for a driver’s license or ID card, an appointment online or over the phone will save you time in line and help reduce wait times. If you’re planning to take a behind-the-wheel test in Coolidge, Flagstaff, Holbrook, Show Low, or Tempe, an appointment will ensure that you’ll have the opportunity to successfully complete the test.
When you make an appointment at the AZ DMV, be sure to know what service you need and come prepared. Some services require additional documentation, and arriving at the MVD without the proper documents will result in your appointment being canceled prior to or at the window. If you’re scheduled to renew your vehicle registration, be sure to have the plate number and last two digits of your VIN handy. If you’re registering a new vehicle or replacing a lost, stolen, or damaged license, be sure to bring proof of identity and address.
The MVD also offers other online services through AZ MVD Now, which requires you to activate an account or sign in to access the full suite of online features. You can use this site to complete dozens of MVD-related services, including renewing your registration, ordering personalized/specialty plates, a short-term permit and more.
